Albrecht Altdorfer (1480-1538)
Summary
Leader of the Danubian School in southern Germany, contemporary of Durer. Landscape painter of religious and mythological representations.
Altdorfer is most famously remembered for painting landscapes for their beauty and not as illustrating any story or parable; as such he is perhaps the first "pure" landscape painter.
