Biographical
Athenian statesman and general. He agitated against Sparta during the Peloponnesian war but switched sides after his recall to Athens on false charges during the campaign in Sicily in 415. Alcibiades later directed the Athenian fleet in the Aegean and in 410 won a victory over the Peloponnesian fleet. He was a ward of the general Pericles and a devoted follower of the philosopher Socrates.
