Biographical
Prussian general and military strategist in the Napoleonic wars and Director of the Prussian war college. Clausewitz's unfinished On War was published the year after his death. He is remembered for his pronouncement that war is merely the continuation of policy by other means but that war can only be waged under certain circumstances. The work is certainly influenced by Sun Tzu's The Art of War and Machiavelli's The Prince. He remains the most frequently cited, controversial, and the most modern military strategist.
