Biographical
Edvard Hagerup Grieg (born Bergen, Norway, June 15, 1843, died Bergen, September 4, 1907) was a Norwegian composer of Scottish descent. He is noted as a nationalist composer, drawing inspiration from Norwegian folk music. He wrote many short pieces for piano leading to some calling him the Chopin of the north. His most notable works include: Peer Gynt (incidental music for the play by Henrik Ibsen); piano Concerto in A minor; Holberg Suite (for string orchestra); ten volumes of Lyric Pieces (for piano).
